This quintessentially ’80s novel by King and Straub is a trippy, interdimensional adventure story about a young boy who must travel across America, crossing back and forth between our world and another, in an effort to save his ailing mother. With help from the kind and mysterious Speedy Parker, Travelin’ Jack discovers a parallel world known as the Territories, a place untouched by modern technology, populated by Wolfs and other strange creatures, and ruled by a queen who is his mother’s own ‘Twinner.’ The Territories hold many secrets about Jack’s past, about his late father and his partner ‘uncle Morgan,’ and about the systems of power at play in our own world.

The sequel, Black House, follows Jack as an adult, now a retired homicide detective helping to solve a string of murders in Wisconsin.

A Netflix series of The Talisman is currently in development, with the Duffer Brothers (of Stranger Things fame) backing the project.
